The iconic Chamberlain Clock at the heart of Birminghams Jewellery Quarter. But what is the history of this landmark ?
It was first built in 1903 as a commemoration to a local MP Joseph Chamberlain. He was a local resident to Hockley and the quarter and lived on Frederick St.
He was continuously helping jewellers with his campaign to annual Plate Duties. This was a tax that affected jewellery tradesmen of that particular time.
It was his hope to revolutionise the British Empire into one united trading block. He strongly believed that the advantageous treatment should have been given to British companies producing goods for the home market. To also protect them from low-cost foreign goods.
Mary Crowninshield Endicott was the third wife to Chamberlain. She was present to the unveiling of the clock back on 1903.This Edwardian clock tower stands tall now at the heart of the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham.
In 1989 the clock was fully restored back to its original form after being left in a state of disrepair for over eighty years. The clocks original timepiece was a clockwork winding handle, which was then adapted to a more modern electrical contraption.
Think ahead and plan
Any good video production is pre planned and thought out in advance. You will need to think about what shots you want to be included. If it was for a birthday party you may want to start with guests arriving, the blowing out of candles, cake cutting, presents being opened. Maybe interview guests, film any singing and dancing.
The more you prepare for this the better the video will be.
Advice on camera set up and positioning
Always use a tripod if possible.By keeping the camera on a tripod the shots remain steady and clear.
Most professional video films start with an establishing shot. This scans the selected area with shots of all necessary surrounding scenes.
Change the shots an positioning at regular intervals.Keeping the view in the same position for to long can be boring for viewers.
Lastly check the audio sounds constantly. The best way to keep the levels precise is to where closed headphones.
